“The Northern Lights are a truly fascinating phenomenon, mesmerizing to watch and to photograph. I always believed that photographs including the night sky do need to be composed and crafted as any other landscape photograph; I never found photos of just a piece of sky particularly interesting, and that is true for the Northern Lights as well, no matter how appealing they are. When I am in the west of Iceland, I find Budakirkja to be one of my favorite subjects for Northern Lights photography, with her simple but very graphic silhouette. Composing precisely in total darkness is challenging, and so is focussing; you need experience and a good knowledge of your equipment. With my combination of camera and focal length, an exposure of around 20 seconds was the limit to get as much light as I could without experiencing movement in the stars.” – Vieri
