LONGING FOR DAYS GONE BY

“The River Po’s Delta is an area of incredible beauty, with landscapes resulting from centuries of close interaction between nature and man. Most of the land you’ll see today in the Delta has been reclaimed from wetlands; despite that, this area is still the largest wetland area in Italy. Ca’ Vendramin is the largest water pumping station built in the Delta, able to lift 11.000 liters of water per second. The station has been in commission between 1905 and 1960, when the effects of two large River Po’s floods rendered it useless; today, it hosts the Reclamation Museum. I have always been fascinated by industrial archeology, and this site in particular caught my attention since my first visit. To convey it’s current decommissioned status, I decided to photograph it at dusk, when the melancholy atmosphere of Ca’ Vendramin is most evident.” – Vieri
