ROMANTIC AWAKENING

“Vernazza, in Cinque Terre, is a favorite location of mine, with her dramatic setting on an outcrop of rock and her characteristic tower. I have been visiting the Cinque Terre since my childhood, and I know them like the back of my hand. This familiarity with the locations allows me to find compositions that very few people know about, as with the image here; as well, it allows me to chose the best time of the day and of the year to go portraying it. Witnessing the sun rising over the village is just unforgettable; after carefully composing my photograph so that the tower doesn’t overlap with the coast facing it, which to me completely kills the image, a quick assessment of the clouds’ speed made me decide for an exposure of nearly one and half minute, to smoothen the sea and render some movement in the slow clouds.” – Vieri
