“Zion is one of my favorite destinations in the Southwest USA and the Watchman, as heavily photographed as it is, is one of the sights I am never tired of. The Watchman feels to me as a constant presence, a guardian we can always count on, and to convey this feeling I love photographing it under the soft and warm light of dusk. This time of the day, the light creates deeply saturated color on the Watchman and is directional enough to create depth, while not being as contrasty as sunset or daytime light, making it easier to retain textures and detail in the shadows. A moderately long exposure allowed me to transform the Virgin River’s waters in a curve of liquid metal pointing at the Watchman.” – Vieri
