“Most lighthouses look like sentinels of sort, both due to their physical aspect and to their position on the landscape. However, since my first visit years ago, this one in Iceland looked to me like it was wearing military stripes, making it the ultimate Sentinel! To express that idea visually, I decided to compose in square format, using the path to the lighthouse as a visual pedestal; I went for a very symmetrical composition and photographed it during a colorful sunset. Using a long exposure of about one and a half minute allowed me to smoothen the clouds, giving them an abstract feeling that complemented the subject perfectly for me.” – Vieri
